The Spring 2023 semester has reached its climax, and as the semester concludes for the College of Music and our chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, wonderful events that we have looked forward to all semester finally arrived!

On Tuesday night, our music education students were invited to a student teaching panel hosted by NTMEA and WBDI, with one of our graduating seniors, Audrey, as a panelist. The discussion was enlightening, eye-opening, and extremely informational!

On Wednesday night, three of our members (Amanda, David M, Brandon) performed in a magnificent concert with the UNT Symphony Orchestra and UNT Grand Chorus (combination of the A Capella Choir, University Singers, and Concert Choir), in a magical performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.

On Thursday night, two of our newly initiated members, Abby and David M, performed their final concert of the semester with the UNT Wind Symphony. Many Wind Studies students in the audience and other members of the chapter described the concert as “one of, if not the best Wind Studies concerts we had ever seen”, with incredible flute soloists, an unforgettable movie set to Giroux’s “Symphony No. 6: The Blue Marble”, a performance by the national champion graduate trumpet ensemble, and a catchy and jazzy finale to the 2022-2023 Wind Studies season. Bravi, tutti!!!

Friday night brought us to chapter alumni and Denton Alumni chapter president Mama Capps’ house for our end-of-semester Phormal. We were so thankful to be blessed with a loving home and warm, home cooked food, as we all celebrated the near-conclusion of a wonderful semester for the chapter, introduced our new members to Mama Capps, and said our official goodbyes to our members who will be leaving after this semester. We also began a new tradition-giving paddles to our graduating seniors!

On Saturday afternoon, members of the chapter who participate in the Chamber Studies program got to watch the thrilling Papich Chamber Music Competition, in which our SERV Committee Head, Jack, performed with his trumpet sextet, one of only two ensembles in the brass division to qualify for the competition-and placed 2nd in the competition! Congratulations, Jack!!!

On Sunday afternoon, multiple members of the chapter traveled to Sage Oak of Denton, to perform a recital for the nursing home’s residents! This is always a favorite recital of ours-watching the residents’ faces light up with joy as we perform is a highlight of every semester.

With only two more weeks until the semester comes to an end, we look back and are grateful for all that has happened this semester, and the immense growth that our chapter has had. Good luck to all members of the chapter on juries this week-you’ve got this! GMG, and Mu Phi For Life! 💜
