And with that, the Spring 2023 semester has come to a conclusion!
On Friday evening, our wonderful Mu Zeta class fulfilled their Candidate Recital and Candidate Social Event requirements, performing a spectacular recital for the chapter followed by a Kahoot game about the new initiates themselves! Our new initiates performed in a large Mu Zeta Ensemble, performing arrangements of “Mii Theme”, “Animal Crossing: New Horizons”, and “Super Mario Bros”, all arranged by new initiate Megan! Following this ensemble performance, new initiate Nguyen performed Billie Jean, while tap-dancing at the same time! All members of the chapter had a blast performing in and attending this recital, and it was a much-needed stress reliever for all as final exams and move-outs approached.
On Sunday afternoon, two of our members, Alyssa and David C, performed with the Dallas Winds Honor Band at North Dallas High School, conducted by our very own woodwind and brass methods coordinator, Mrs. Kathy Johnson. The ensemble consists of students largely from underrepresented communities throughout Dallas ISD, who are coached by members of the Dallas Winds. Methods students at UNT were invited to participate and help out by Mrs. Johnson, learning from the Dallas Winds on primary and secondary instruments, helping out in sectionals, and participating in full ensemble rehearsals and the concert. It has been a truly thrilling experience for our participating members, getting to work with these wonderful students, applying what they have learned in their methods classes, and playing side-by-side with members of such a nationally-recognized ensemble, as well as students from the Dallas ISD chapter of United Sound. Kudos to all!
On Sunday evening, our final chapter meeting of the semester was held outside in the Music Courtyard, and was filled with joy, planning for next fall and a pizza party to celebrate everything we have accomplished together this semester!
It has been a wonderful semester in the Phi Tau Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon. While we are sad to see it go, we are eagerly anticipating the future, and there are some really fun things planned for next fall! Stay tuned to the blog over the summer to see what chaotic things we find ourselves up to while we are apart, celebrate our graduating seniors, and follow along as members of our chapter attend the 2023 Mu Phi Epsilon International Convention in Grapevine, TX! GMG, and Mu Phi For Life!
